Definition: the aggregate transfer rate of signal elements in a transmission link, expressed in normalized form in binary digits per second

NOTE 1 – The signalling rate is given by

i=1 i=m 1 T i log 2 n i MathType@MTEF@5@5@+= feaagKart1ev2aaatCvAUfeBSjuyZL2yd9gzLbvyNv2CaerbbjxAHX garuavP1wzZbItLDhis9wBH5garmWu51MyVXgaruWqVvNCPvMCG4uz 3bqee0evGueE0jxyaibaieYdi9WrpeeC0lXdi9qqqj=hEeeu0lXdbb a9frFj0xb9Lqpepeea0xd9s8qiYRWxGi6xij=hbba9q8aq0=yq=He9 q8qiLsFr0=vr0=vr0db8meaabaGacmGadiWaaiWabaabaiaafaaake aadaaeWbqaamaalaaabaGaaGymaaqaaiaadsfadaWgaaWcbaGaamyA aaqabaaaaOGaaGjbVlGacYgacaGGVbGaai4zamaaBaaaleaacaaIYa aabeaakiaad6gadaWgaaWcbaGaamyAaaqabaaabaGaamyAaiabg2da 9iaaigdaaeaacaWGPbGaeyypa0JaamyBaaqdcqGHris5aaaa@4B7C@

where m is the number of parallel transmission channels, Тi is the shortest theoretical duration of signal element for the i-th channel expressed in seconds, and ni is the number of significant conditions of the modulation in the i-th channel.

NOTE 2 – The symbol of the unit of binary rate is bit/s.
