Definition: | greatest distance at which a given object can be recognised in any particular circumstances, as limited only by the atmospheric transmissivity and by the visual contrast threshold
NOTE 1 – In aviation terminology, the term is also used for the luminous range of a signal light.
NOTE 2 – In aviation terminology, the runway visual range of a runway at an aerodrome is the greatest distance at which the runway surface markings, or the runway centre-line lights, or the runway edge lights, can be seen from a given height above the centre line of the runway.
