Definition: loss of acoustic signal caused by the presence of the sonar dome

Note 1 to entry: In transmit mode, the insertion loss is the difference between the sound pressure generated by the sonar measured at a point in the acoustic far field, with and without the sonar dome in place around the sonar.

Note 2 to entry: In receive mode, the insertion loss is the difference between the electrical signal at the transducer terminals generated by a sound source in the acoustic far field, with and without the sonar dome in place around the sonar.
