Note 1 to entry: Dissociation may occur stepwise, as in the following example:

H3PO4 → H++ H2(PO4)−

H3PO4 → 2H++ H(PO4)−2

H3PO4 → 3H++ (PO4)−3

Dissociation degrees are 1/3, 2/3, and 1 for the three reactions above, respectively.
